Super Mario Run: 50 Million Downloads and Counting

Who needs a Mega Mushroom when you have 50 million downloads?

Despite a bad rating of 2.5 out of 5 from players on the App Store, and a plummeting stock price for Nintendo, Super Mario Run has been downloaded 50 million times on Apple devices. That’s an impressive feat.   Android users are still waiting for Mario to hit their devices in 2017.     Super Mario Run has faced much criticism for it’s short length, and the $9.99 price tag to unlock all levels of the game. It’s also surprising that Nintendo declined to say that the game will be updated further with new DLC. That breaks from the norm, when most pay-to-play games with in-app purchases add new content over time to encourage more user spending.   Instead Nintendo seems to be approaching the mobile platform just as they do game consoles: one price, one full game. The only difference is the free period you get when you first download Super Mario Run. So far Super Mario Run has out-paced and passed Pokemon Go.   Regardless of the reviews, Super Mario Run is a massive hit download wise. But can it back those numbers up with actual profit? That remains to be seen.
