Gameplay 72%

Tap Tap Dash is a simple maze like game where an animal walks on a narrow path collecting red gems and when it steps on a green button you just tap on the screen to change direction left or right. If the path ends and there’s a platform ahead, tapping the screen will get you a jump action. tap-tap-dash-screenshot-1   As you advance in the game, you’ll notice that the camera zooms in, zooms out, tilts and your animal changes the walk speed. This is all to make you lose your “rhythm” and make things more challenging. In later levels you may have to change direction many times on the same tiny platform, or jump and turn as soon as you land. The button for the tap action is gray, when you get close, it turns green, and it’s then that you can tap on the screen to turn or jump, if you don’t do it on time, you may fall off, and if you do it too soon, you may not reach the next platform. Also, by level 10 the path will have sections where it’s even narrower, so if you don’t change direction at the right moment, you may fall down since you have to go closer to the center. The red gems you collect give you 10 points each, and while there are 1000 levels, you can play continuously one level after the other like if it is an endless path, and everytime you reach a goal it’s a checkpoint. After you reach a certain level, you may unlock a new animal to play with. The all walk the same speed and jump the same height, but it’s a nice feature for diversity.

Graphics 70%

Tap Tap Dash features simple 2D visuals. The animals don’t have much color, and they’re always just walking the white path over a single color background. When you lose or reach a new level, the background changes color, and after a while you may see some patterns with lighter shades for a little variety, but it’s still feels pretty much like a blank plain setting. tap-tap-dash-screenshot-2   There aren’t many elements to see, but at least there are many animals to choose from, and they can get accesories like glasses, headphones and other wearable items for a little more appealing aesthetic look.

Production Quality 82%

Tap Tap Dash features a thousand levels with progressive challenge. When you start out, you’ll have no problem following the path, but pretty soon you’ll see that gameplay wise is a very fun example of the zigzag type of games. tap-tap-dash-screenshot-3   Similar apps like Splashy Cats just have you tapping whenever you want to change direction, leftand right. But here, having to jump and tilting the screen all over makes a more complex and enjoyable experience, which doesn’t get old as soon as a simple ZigZag title. Besides, levels here are actually designed and lasts just enough to be entertaining, and the difficulty is well balanced, well it gets harder and harder, it doesn’t become frustrating.

Value for your Money 80%

TAp Tap Dash is free on Google Play and the Apple App Store. You’ll see some banner advertising, like it’s usual in these games, but you can buy the Ad-Free version for $1.99. Similar games cost a dollar less, so you may think twice before making the purchase. But if you plan to beat all levels, it is prettty reasonable.

Summary

Tap Tap Dash is a nice choice if you enjoy the zigzag genre. Adding the jump ability really adds to the experience, and the camera movement will make things more challenging as you go on. Similar titles are endless and don’t offer much things to unlock, and here you have many animals friends and costumes to get. While the graphics could be better and it lacks music, it’s a good game to pass some time if you enjoy this type of games. Pros
  • Simple tap gameplay that can get pretty challenging
  • 1000 levels to play
  • Many animal characters to unlock
Cons
  • Could’ve used some music
  • Graphics seem too plain and boring
